Explore Potential Pathways

  • Surrounding myself with different professions in the healthcare field

  • Asking questions like what they would've done differently, the courses they took, the emotions that you feel, etc

  • Working hands-on in a hospital setting to see if working in one will be something I enjoy

Training

These certifications that I completed during integration weeks at school were definitely helpful during my placement. I understood the rights I have as an employee, and how to protect myself from various situations like chemical spills, sick patients, my surroundings, etc. All have become useful to me in my professional life.

Leadership & Employer Accountability

Sadly at my placement, I wasn't given the opportunity to show leadership as everything has to be done by a certified professional. However, I think I applied leadership to my placement by frequently asking what I could do to help, asking questions, and showing initiative.

As for working for an employer and accountability, I have learned about the importance of maintaining healthy relationships with my colleagues as they might help me out in the future. All of my co-workers have been super kind and patient with me and are always willing to help out when things get a bit tricky. Showing accountability for personal mistakes is a very important thing in life. By being accountable, I can grow and learn from these mistakes. We all make mistakes as none of us are perfect, so showing professionalism and owning up to them is a very mature thing to do.
