Who do I Want to Become?

How has co-op informed who I want to become? As a student? As a catholic school graduate? How has it informed my faith/life/learning/career goals?

My co-op at Markham Stouffville Hospital has been instrumental in shaping my aspirations for the future and guiding me of who I aim to become, influencing me both as a student and as a Catholic school graduate. Professionally, it has clarified my path towards a career centered on healthcare, emphasizing the critical role of compassion and care in patient well-being. The hands-on exposure to the healthcare environment during my co-op has given me the desire to pursue a career in healthcare as I am driven by service and dedication to improving people's lives. As a Catholic school graduate, my co-op experience has deepened my understanding of how my faith integrates with real-world scenarios, particularly in a healthcare setting. It has reinforced the importance of empathy, selflessness, and ethical decision-making in my professional life.

How will this experience help me with post secondary?

My co-op experience at MSH will significantly benefit me in various ways as I transition into post-secondary education. Firstly, it has provided me with practical hands-on experience in a medical setting, which can serve as a valuable foundation for my further studies. Additionally, this experience has equipped me with transferable skills that are highly valued in higher education settings. Skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, and critical thinking, gained through my co-op, will be valuable assets in navigating the academic challenges of post-secondary studies and when I get a job. These skills are applicable across various disciplines and will assist me in excelling in my academics, collaborating effectively with peers, and managing the demands of coursework and extracurricular activities. Moreover, my co-op experience has helped me develop a clearer sense of my career aspirations and interests. This clarity will guide me in selecting courses and programs that align with my goals, allowing me to make informed decisions about my academic path and future career choices.

Resume

During my placement at MSH, I enhanced my skills rather than learning new ones. This includes communication with patients and co-workers, showing initiative by asking for new tasks and being able to work as a team.

Cover Letter

I decided to rewrite my cover letter for the Pharmacy Assistant position at my local Walmart. This would allow me to learn more about different healthcare units and maybe develop new interests.

Faith Reflection

My involvement in the Catholic faith has definitely had an impact on my co-op experience at Markham Stouffville Hospital. Key principles in Catholicism like compassion, honesty, integrity, and much more are values I upheld within the hospital’s environment. As a Catholic, being a servant of God is very important. In a hospital setting, being a servant to others is something done on a daily. I emphasized the significance of empathy and selflessness. These values were applied in my interactions with patients and colleagues at the hospital. At times, my faith acted as a moral compass when certain situations occurred. This can include ethical decision-making, being honest when I make a mistake, and upholding the dignity of patients. I would say my Catholic beliefs and my experiences at the hospital shaped my understanding of the significance of compassionate care which will be something I will always remember for the future.
